So I am planning my wedding for 9-10-11 (Sept 10, 2011) My dad is helping pay for it (but, I have so many ideas) and it is coming together, but am scared to start with my downpayments. I have colors, cake, DJ, Venue, Coordinator, and Save the Dates..

I can't find a decent florist or photographer who won't charge over 1500 for their services.

Why are flowers more than the DJ? Can anyone recommend something? I also haven't decided on a dress. Can't I rent one?

I have been married for 10 years and am doing a renewing of vow ceremony, so I don't know if I am overdoing it.

Suggestions are more than welcome My zip code is 20170, I am near Alexandria

I'm having trouble researching ideas for what the Officiant should say to introduce/explain the sand ceremony! Are any other brides doing the sand unity ceremony, and how are you explaining it's symbolism to the guests?

We're having an 80-90 guest wedding, and many of our guests are already married or engaged. How many people are necessary to have a bouquet toss or garter throw? We will have about 8 unmarried girls and 9 unmarried guys. Is this enough to participate? And do people participate if they are divorced or engaged? What are the unspoken rules for the toss and throw?

Is pre-marital counseling really necessary? I'm not sure if it would be worth going (wedding is in 2 months). What would we get out of going if we went?

I am trying to come up with a theme or color palette for our wedding. We are getting married in my hometown, Hot Springs. It is a historic little town and use to serve as Al Capone's hideout. My future husband loves gangster history and I happen to love the Roaring 20's era. I do not want our reception to resemble a "speakeasy" but am just trying to get ideas for this theme. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Alright, I am getting married in mid-October 2011, so a little over a year. My fiance and I are on a very strict budget as we are trying to go inexpensive, but not cheap looking. The ceremony will be held in a small country church with family and a few friends attending...apx. 100 people. We are both country lovers and like the cowboy western look, but we both also want bright colors for the wedding.

Our main color is a bright blue. The bridesmaids will be wearing short black cotton dresses of their choice and the groomsmen black button ups with dark wash jeans. My wedding dress is an off-white, almost cream. My fiance will look the same as the groomsmen, but he will be wearing a bright blue tie also.

The flowers are going to be small arrangements of pink, yellow, red, and orange gerbera daisies. To incorporate the blue into my arrangement, the ribbon holding it together will be blue.

So, we already have a lot of color....but are also incorporating some tan colors as we are using twine and cowboy boots as accents in the ceremony and reception.
For the reception, we are thinking black and white table cloths, alternating on the tables (not both on the same table) with the opposite color hankerchief in the middle with our centerpieces (mason jars with floating candles) in the center. The napkins and plates will be blue (some napkins white), along with blue or maybe clear cups. The cake will have the bright pinks, orange, yellow, red, and blue on it.

I feel like there is a lot of color and craziness going on. I want it to look uniform, but not still casual. Any thoughts on how to change this, or any opinions on the color and theme blending together would be great! Thanks!

Hi Everyone!
I'm new to this. I just got engaged this past January. I'm scared and excited and happy all at the same time. I don't know what the rules are when it comes to planning. I know for a fact that, though my parents helped my sister fully with her wedding, they have no intentions of helping me with mine. I don't know where to start actually. My fiancee and I have discussed the fact that maybe we may have something small considering we don't have the money to have a big wedding and many of my relatives want to come to the wedding. Yikes! We won't be married until October 2011. Any suggestions???

I've had a few people tell me if I use pumpkins, it's going to look more like Thanksgiving more than the effect I want..which is Halloween design. Oh, I also know I want the reception hall to look mystical and magical. Any ideas on how to get that effect on a budget? Thanks for your help!

My fiance's little sister is a bridesmaid in our wedding. She will be 12 when we get married making her a junior bridesmaid. When we went to pick out dresses, she threw a fit because I wanted her to get a junior bridesmaid dress, she didn't want one because it wasn't strapless. I finally said whatever and told her she doesn't have to get a junior one, but she needs to get one with straps because she doesn't have anything to hold it up. O boy did she throw an even bigger fit. I finally said whatever get the strapless but I'm not listening to her complain when it falls down. We are having an outside wedding and the other bridesmaids are wearing flats. She doesn't want to wear flats and is throwing a fit. Idk what i should do....

Hey all! I am getting married in June and we are having an indoor ceremony at a banquet center. I am looking for ideas for decoration at the end of the isle where the officiant, groom, and I will be standing for the ceremony. I am not sure if a wedding arch would look good, or some other kind of decoration? Were we will be standing will be slightly elevated on a couple risers. I just don't know what to do about the decorations... any ideas?

My fiancee and I plan to marry in the Fall...to be exact, Halloween weekend. I want to use pumpkins on the table arrangements. I've had a few people tell me if I use pumpkins, it's going to look more like Thanksgiving more than the effect I want..which is Halloween design. Oh, I also know I want the reception hall to look mystical and magical. Any ideas on how to get that effect on a budget? Thanks for your help!

You know I honestly used to look at people and think, "why are you hiring someone to plan your wedding... it's YOUR wedding". I was so excited when it was my turn to do it!! I'm really good at planning parties and stuff so why would this be any different? Not to mention that I've only dreamed of how my dress would look and what the hall would look like only for well... MY WHOLE LIFE.

So I started the planning 4 months ago, I did my research and heard that it's best to get the place first. I got all dressed up with a few friends one day and we went out looking. I ended up very disappointed :( A lot of places blew me off and were more interested in getting my deposit. Some places even wanted to change my date, which I firmly said that I didn't want to do. The next weekend I decided to take a break from that and check out some catering companies. Oh what a mistake that was!!! They honestly wanted me to try left over food... what is that?? My parents were willing to spend a ton of money and they wanted me to try stale food. I was outraged.

A friend told me about a family owned wedding planner and I was like oh no I want to plan my own wedding. But I broke down after all of this rejection and and decided to give these people a call. Come to find out, these people not only set up meetings for me to go to, but they kept me so involved that I have honestly been planning my own wedding! It's like having an assistant!!! Totally not what I thought it was going to be. These people got me deals on stuff, and even with all the money to spend in the world everyone loves a deal!! I'm 6 months away from my wedding and I already have everything booked. How amazing! Now alls left to do is put the finishing touches in place with my planner.... MY planner, ahhh I love it!

You should check them out! http://www.magicalplan-it.com

Planning a wedding is not an easy task because it involves many small events and decisions to make concerning the big day, including wedding hairstyles. With the many wedding planners available everywhere, many brides believe there is a magic formula to determine what they should wear such as long hairstyles, short hairstyles, or even hair extensions.

No, there is no such formula, nor right or wrong answers because it is YOUR wedding day, and only you can decide among the many wedding hairstyles, to make this day a big and unforgettable event that it is expected to be. Selecting the perfect hairstyle yourself should be an easy task because nobody better than you knows how good or bad you feel when you look in the mirror.

If you feel, there are too many things on your mind and too little time to accomplish them, get help from professional stylists, avoiding the confusion over what are best, short hairstyles, long hairstyles or a particular hairdo requiring hair treatment, coloration and even the use of hair extensions.

Creating beautiful wedding hairstyles is easy after browsing through the numerous bridal printed magazines or available on the Internet. Who else better than you can knows if you want to wear your hair up, down, curled or straight? Do not worry at all if you have no idea, because if you start planning your hairdo shortly after the engagement announcement, you will have plenty of time to ask your salon for a trial until you are satisfied with the chosen hairstyle.

Long hairstyles are still the favorites of most brides, because they add sophistication and elegance to a wedding ceremony and reception accordingly. However, do not make the mistake of loosing your personal identity by choosing wedding hairstyles that have nothing to do with your own personality.

Go for casual, romantic long hairstyles or practical, modern short styles if you feel that any of them match your own style. The only exception, perhaps, is when you are wearing short hair but you want a fashionable long hairstyle or up-do, although this problem can be resolved if you let you hair grow in plenty of time or opt using hair extensions.

When a wedding is meant to be celebrated with a small number of family members and closest friends, many brides do not worry, as much about their overall attire since there will not be any camera operators, many relatives, circumstantial friends or even strangers to pay attention on details like their hair.

That thought is a big mistake; the wedding day is the bride and groom’s day. Disregard who is attending the event, give yourself the gift of choosing between the wedding hairstyles that make you feel like a queen, whether you chose from long hairstyles, short hairstyles, or fancy hairdos made with hair extensions.

BridalCookie on "Meaning of colors in your wedding invitation"

When you choose your wedding flowers , you probably gave at least a passing thought to what those flowers symbolized. Plus, those color meanings vary from culture to culture, so if you’re marrying into a non-Western culture or inviting guests from many different cultures , you may want to keep some of these differences in mind.

White
White is a common color used with wedding in the West – mostly because of its association with purity and innocence. However, white can also be associated with coldness and cleanliness (think about how white a doctor’s office is), as well as winter , snow, and peace.

In Estern countries, white is often associated with death and mourning, possibly because dead bodies are covered in white shrouds.

Black

Black is not as common for weddings because in the West it has such a negative connotation. When we think of black , we think of unlucky black cats, evil lurking in dark places, as well as sadness, grief, and death.

However, black is also associated with sophistication and modernity. That’s why so much modern furniture and most electronics are black.

Blue
Blue is perhaps one of the best wedding colors to choose. Research has shown that blue is related to the least amount of negative connotations and the most positive ones, regardless of culture. It seems you’d have a hard time going wrong with blue, especially since it is associated with so many good things, such as clear skies, quiet seas, tranquility, loyalty, fresh water, and truthfulness. In fact, in some other cultures, blue is viewed as a color that can keep away evil spirits.

Probably the most negative connotation for blue is obscenity. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, laws forbidding immoral behavior were called blue laws. The reasons for using the word “blue” to describe them is not known, but even that negative association is not common in today’s generations.

Red
Although red roses may be a sign of love, the color also has a number of less positive connotations, including blood, war, death, anger, fire, and danger. Red also symbolizes passion, sex, and excitement, so it might be a better choice for the honeymoon than for the wedding invitations.

In China , however, red stands for good luck and celebration and in India red means purity and is frequently used as a wedding color – that might make it an ideal choice for announcing your special event.

Pink
While pink is a tint of red (basically red mixed with white ), its connotations are usually more in lines with what you’d expect for a wedding invitation colors. In fact, marriage is one of its meanings. Admiration, love, and spring time are also associated with the color. Plus, it is the color of femininity so women tend to be drawn towards it.

Of course, pink’s associated with breast cancer awareness may make it somewhat less desirable for some couples.

Green
In the U. S., green is a powerful symbol of wealth and money, as well as its associated characteristics – greed, jealousy, and envy. Green is also strongly associated with nature and the environment, as well as fertility and rebirth.

Green has also been associated with evil spirits, including the devil during the Middle Ages. Some European countries view green as unlucky while others view it as the color of disgrace and corruption.

Yellow
Yellow is a bright color that conjures up thoughts of sunshine and summer immediately. It is also associated with good feelings like happiness, joy, and hope. Some may also view it as a color of wealth because of its closeness in shade to gold. In Japan, yellow is a particularly important color because it is associated with royal family and stands for courage.

There is also a down side to yellow. Yellow can symbolize illness (because of jaundice), caution, and cowardice. During the Middle Ages, yellow – like green – was associated with the devil, as well as with death. In Egypt, yellow represents grief and mourning.

Purple
Purple’s many shades have become a popular addition to weddings over the years, possibly because of some of its associations. Like yellow in Japan, purple has come to symbolize nobility and royalty in Western cultures. Darker shades of purple are also associated with sensuality while lighter shades represent romance.

Purple also has other connotations. For example, purple was adopted by many rights groups for a symbol in the West. In Thailand, purple is the color widows must wear while mourning their lost husbands.

As you can see, most of the colors above have some positive and negative connotations. What’s most important is choosing colors for your wedding invitation that symbolize good things for the two of you.

Learning a New Skill, Craft or Language on Your Honeymoon
By admin (Edit) on March 24th, 2010

If you’d like the lasting mementoes of your honeymoon to consist of more than just a few snaps and souvenirs, why not use the time to learn a new skill – or improve the one you already have?

From horse riding trips to creative writing retreats, wine tasting weekends in luxury châteaus, to Cordon Bleu cookery lessons in professional kitchens, there are specialist holiday trips to suit every taste and budget. And for a honeymoon, it will truly be a memorable experience. So what will you do on yours?

Language Course Honeymoons
Imagine visiting Spain or Portugal, Greece or France and totally immersing yourself in the lifestyle – staying a rustic, village location, maybe with a host family, or perhaps in a bustling city centre, and really living the life of an inhabitant of the country rather than a tourist. If your language skills are rusty, or non-existent, and you fancy the idea of using your honeymoon to brush up your linguistics, then attending a language course abroad could make for an inspiring and interesting honeymoon experience – and one that you will hopefully never forget!

Wine Tasting Honeymoons
Being the forerunner in wine production in the world, France is generally considered the number one destination for wine tasting trips, and as such, there are a plethora of tour operators organising wine tasting holidays, from weekends to full on fortnights.

Wine tasting breaks can encompass all budgets and scales – from one off tours of vineyards as part of a bigger trip to a particular region, or a full-on wine lovers stay in a luxury château with wine tasting trips to vineyards and cellars.

Other popular destinations for wine lovers include Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia. Do your research, as many companies offer far more than just a straight forward tasting break – luxury, high end packages including wine tasting cruises, vineyard walking holidays, and champagne tasting holidays – what more could honeymooners want?

Creative Honeymoons
If you or your partner are keen writers, artists or crafts people, then booking an arts inspired honeymoon could be for you!

Courses for writers and artists are popular all year round, and are available across the globe via many UK companies. Groups are kept small to ensure individual attention, so if you choose this type of trip for your honeymoon, you will need to book it well in advance.

Holidaymakers either use the time to complete a work in progress, or start a brand new project. Some creative writing and painting breaks are simply ‘retreat’ like vacations; peaceful, quiet locations to ensure the muse strikes. Others offer structured workshops and tutorials from experts in the genre.

Other Ideas
Consider all your options before choosing your break, and keep an open mind – don’t necessarily go for a tried and tested activity – why not learn something completely new or try your hand at a different sport or craft or art activity?

And remember, find a trip that also gives you plenty of free time to learn a whole lot more about each other!

BridalCookie on "Bridesmaid in Wedding Ceremony"

A bridesmaid is first and foremost someone who the bride wants to be a part of her wedding. Perhaps she is a sister, or a very close friend; her friendship and support of the marriage is meaningful.

More than that, a bridesmaid and/or maid-of-honor serves a practical purpose. During the hectic time of planning a wedding, she is a confidant, advice giver, doer of menial tasks, errand runner and more. A bride should have at least one bridesmaid (preferably the maid-of-honor) who is reliable, cheerfully helpful, organized, and who lives close to the bride.

A bridesmaid’s duties might include:

    * helping the bride shop for her dress and bridesmaids’ dresses
* when asked, giving advice on decorations, favors, music, and more
* helping the maid of honor to plan a bridal shower, and, if appropriate, chipping in for the costs of food, decorations, or venue
* helping to plan a bachelorette party (this the bridesmaids may pay for or split the cost with the other attendees)
* helping the bride dress (and stay calm) before the ceremony
* providing moral support at all times
* telling others where the couple is registered and other details, such as when they will return from their honeymoon, where to send gifts, and any name changes.
* being useful at the wedding reception. The couple may ask you to help direct guests to the guestbook, assist with a special moment, make sure that vendors have arrived, or do crisis management. You might also want to stick around after the reception and make sure things are cleaned up and wedding presents secured.
* being social. Be sure to talk to as many guests as you can, making them feel warmly welcomed. If there’s a dance floor, help get the party going!
* consider throwing (or helping to pitch in for) a day-after brunch. These events are great to help the couple catch up with out-of-town guests, and have a more relaxed environment to socialize in.

A good bridesmaid also makes sure she is helpful rather than a hindrance. This means being where she needs to be, on time, ordering her bridesmaid dress at the right time, and not badmouthing the bride behind her back.

A Maid of Honor or Matron of Honor has additional duties. She is the person whom the bride most wants to honor and celebrate her friendship. At the wedding ceremony, she has the honor of being the last to walk down the aisle before the bride, and stands next to her during the ceremony. In addition to a bridesmaid’s duties, listed above, a maid of honor should:

    * help with wedding planning, such as researching locations, florists, caterers and other vendors.
* volunteer to help address wedding invitations and/or announcements
* make sure her fellow bridesmaids have ordered their dresses and accessories on time
* helping with the rehearsal dinner
* holding the bouquet during the ceremony
* giving a meaningful toast during the reception.

The Expenses of a Bridesmaid There is a considerable expense involved in being a bridesmaid, including cost of apparel, travel and hotel room for the ceremony, hosting a party, as well as a shower gift and a wedding gift. A bridesmaid can save money by asking others to pitch in for the showers, wearing a dress she already owns (if that’s okay with the bride), making her own dress, and staying with friends. She can give her friend the gift of time – i.e., the gift of addressing and stuffing the invitations. Also, a bride may pay for some of the expenses if her budget allows it.

The Bachelorette Party :P lanning a bachelorette party should be a fun experience for a bridesmaid to toast the bride and have a blast with both new and old friends. The party planner should be sure to keep the bride in mind always. Just because the wild maid-of-honor might want a stripper doesn’t mean the bride will. Consider if the bride is more a gambling-in-Vegas type of gal, or a sitting-by-the-pool-with-a-white-wine-spritzer girl. Read to get some ideas and hints. Most of all, a bachelorette party should be a unique amazing experience that’s both a total blast and an enormous bonding time.

I am inspired by so many things! But today I realized that I am becoming inspired by the smallest things more often! It was so warm today, the sun was shinning, I opened all the windows, the house was so bright and the smell was so fresh after having been closed up all winter and I started thinking about all the colors of what the season is bringing. I am so freakin excited!!!!! I love it!!! Inspiration! Then my youngest daughter came home from school, (many of you that know me, know that she has special needs) and she had the biggest smile on her face, arms open wide to greet me, running as fast as she could towards me with complete abandon! Inspiration! Then i read this awesome article from an amazing woman: Liz Dennery Sanders, WOW, she is Fabulous!!!! If you haven't heard of her, you have to check her out! Inspiration! I guess what i am trying to tell you here is, look around, you will find it too, it is all around us, even in the smile of a precious child! I would love to hear where you are finding your Inspiration lately! Write me and let me know! Take care and talk to ya soon.

My fiance and I are both college students so our budget is extremely tight. In addition both of our families are not in a position to really help us. My mother had offered to pay for the reception location and about $100 in food (about $200 all together) and his mother has yet to offer any help although we are thinking of asking her to make the favors (she makes and sells candles out of her home). Despite neither of them being able to contribute much to our wedding, both of our mothers have voiced strong opinions that has made planning more difficult.

My mother was formerly employed at the church we regularly attended and had a nasty falling out with them, we haven't attended since. I really enjoyed the church and it was a beautiful building. We've yet to find a new church to attend. She refuses to have anything to do with the church now so getting married there is pretty much out of the picture. We've compensated for this by getting married in an old family church run by my dad's family. It's tiny (maybe holds 55 guests) but it's free.

One of my fiance's grooms men's (and long time friend) family owns and operates a restaurant and we were thinking of asking them if they would cater at a discounted price (or potentially for free as a gift). However, my fiance's mother worked with them for a while and is resentful towards them. She doesn't want them to cater. In fact, she only wants his friend to be invited and none of the family. I'm not sure how else we will be able to afford to feed everyone.

The situation is so frustrating and I'm not sure how to handle it!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :(

After considering the extreme heat in July and in the middle of the day (which would be our ceremony time), my fiance and I considered all the men in the wedding would be wearing dress pants, white dress shirt, tie and vest. I don't want everyone to be dieing because of the heat but I'm worried it wont look okay.... help?

we are planning a soup and salad buffet for dinner. We are on a budget so we decided to do soup and salad buffet because not only could we put it together easily ourselves it is relatively cheap. We will be having chicken noodle, vegetable beef and one other type of soup, also we'll be having a salad bar with tons of vegetables and several meats to go in the salad.
This being said, we told my grandmother what we were planning and she responded with that isn't a dinner so you shouldn't call it a dinner or people will get the wrong idea.

So my question is...would anyone else consider the soup and salad bar a dinner, or should we do something else...

I need some suggestions on what the men can wear for a boutonniere instead of a flower. Since the groom sets the tone and he does not want to wear one. I am going to need his and two additional for our fathers. HELP!!

Our wedding is a vow renewal. It is themed as Paladin/Royal. He will wear a Paladin tunic and change into a suit/tux jacket. My dad is wearing a suit. He might talk his dad into a tunic ( I doubt it). We are in a hotel and the wedding colors/elements are (blue based)purple, cream, gold metals and clear crystals. I'm not a flower chick so the only flowers are in my bouquet. Which will be purple colored hand tied wild flowers (silk like real).

However, our reception will be for our family and friends. In three of the four states we have both sets of the grooms divorced parents, and my parents. So this isn't an extended family problem. Any suggestions on how to get this done?? Do we have to pay to fly everyone in? Do we have to pay for transportation and their hotels? Please help!!! My fiance and I are also paying for the wedding ourselves...so no help from family. Any suggestions or comments are more than welcome!!!
