I know that I still need to come around here and tell you more details about my new “destination wedding” which is now happening in Brazil, but for now, I am just too excited and have to share my new color palette!!!

I’ve changed my mind so many times… and I believe many of you have experienced the same. How can I resist those color combos out there?!?! They all look so pretty!!

I love bold colors, but lately I’ve been more towards some classic tones. After all, you don’t need to go with some crazy combinations in order to do something unique and different.

I’ll probably come up with other pallet until I find the one that I really love, but for now these are the colors I chose:
Peach, ivory, champagne and some touch of old gold, perhaps for the stationary…

What do you think??

Like any good DIY project, my banner idea was birthed from multiple things that I have seen that gave me some inspiration. Naturally, wanting to relieve myself from taking on too much, I searched for quite a while before coming to terms with the fact that there was nothing else like this out there for sale.  I would have to make it if I wanted it.  Such is life. My first step… create a sketch of exactly what it is I want to do.  In this case it was a VERY rough sketch of the church and how I really want my aisles to look once the decor is in place.
I told you it was rough. LOL

If you can ignore the crappiness of the drawing, you will see that I want monogrammed banners on every 5th pew with a rosemary wreath on every other pew between. (For now, ignore the window decor and the aisle runner.)
Now, although I have seen lovely banner garlands and the like, I had yet to see banners like these. So I went to the church and took the measurements of the pews, and then went home and devised a pattern.  I purchased all the supplies I would need for both the banners and my aisle runners (see previous post) at the local JoAnn’s Fabrics, Etc. and got myself into gear.
There are few things more hopeful than new crafting supplies!

There are few things more hopeful than new crafting supplies!

All the easy stuff was finished; now I actually had to work. Sixteen banners needed to be created… before September.  I began making my cuts (a thing that almost always makes me insanely nervous).
Each Navy cut was 10"X 13"The Green cuts were 1 1/2" larger and then the bottom of the rectangles were sliced in 45% angles that met at the center point of the bottom.

The Navy fabric was cut to 10″ X 13″ and the Green was cut to 1 1/2″ larger all around. The Green was then folded in half lengthwise and a 45% angle was taken from the center point of the bottom. I decided to leave the Navy uncut to provide weight.
Next, I laid one of the Green cuts flat on the table. I then picked up one of the Navy pieces and folded the bottom corners to meet in back, thus creating the 45% angle needed to match the bottom of the green. I placed the Navy on the Green and folded the green up around the sides, creating a miter at each corner.

Now, when I actually sew these together, I will hem the Green cuts before that final step of the mitering, etc. But right now my Navy pieces are over at my friend’s house being monogrammed. :D I will take pics when it is all together and ready.
As for hanging these pretties when they are all done and ready to go… easy! I will finish of the tops, fold them over and run a straight stitch to create a small rod pocket, push a small dowel through for rigidity and then tack on a loop of 5/8″ ivory ribbon (to match the embroidery). This will be hooked on a 3M hook that will be attached upside down on the unseen side of the pews.

What do you guys think?  Classy or crazy?

Ok I’m new to the blogs. I’m 23, I’m a stay @ home mom with a 4 year old and 5 month old and full time student. Our tiny budget is $3000 hopefully much less. Here’s what i have already allotted:
venue $100 for 4 hours ruritan club from local fire station
dress $165 bridesmaids from forever bridals at a local bridal shop that also rents $1000 dresses for $150, but i wanted a new dress
food i will cook some, my mom will also. We spent about $150 opposed to $1000 quoted around town
favors i will make 50 favors for under $50. I am doing mini jumping broom magnets and dove candy in the favor bag. The broom is an African American tradition for my fiance’s side that seems really nice to put as a favor. So my family which is puerto rican & cuban will get to understand, i will include a small printed explanation of the tradition also.
shoes got them on eBay as well as a number of other items. The shoes are grace “aria” bridal shoes. Retail price $130, eBay price $10,  $6 shipping,  total of $16.  Decided against a tiara & veil and will opt for a side comb instead.  I found some on eBay less than $20
the facility has 6 & 8 ft rectangle tables, I decided to use them instead of renting like i initially wanted to and will be just renting the chair covers with sashes for under $100, saving over $100. I’m also printing my own invites, programs and already got table #’s and place cards both on eBay for less than $5. I think i can do it and will keep you posted on how the budget is coming along.

As I began writing my first blog for this week, it suddenly occurred to me that I was sounding pretty obsessed with my own wedding. And although it took a little while, I finally convinced myself that there really is nothing bad about that. (Right?) Which led me to envision all the different signs that someone might be obsessed with wedding planning. Maybe you can relate to a few?…

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you spend your entire weekend on your computer, researching and planning for your own wedding, as you watch WE-TV wedding shows for hours on end.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you can’t go shopping anywhere without envisioning how you would use everything in each aisle to enhance your own wedding.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you beg your little sister to marry her brand new almost-boyfriend just so you can “help her” plan her wedding.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you can’t work for an hour straight without thinking about what you are going to blog about next.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you wish you could have multiple weddings just so you can utilize all the amazing ideas that you have.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you take detailed notes while watching Bride Wars, The Wedding Planner, 27 Dresses, or Father of the Bride.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you create actual 3D images to showcase what everything at your wedding is going to look like… just so you can make sure the set-up crew does it exactly as you envision it.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you extend your engagement just so you can experience the fun of planning your wedding for even longer.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you visit dozens of craft stores just to find the perfect paper to use for your handmade invitations.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you tell your bridesmaids not to worry about helping with assembling ceremony programs or guest favors (or doing anything else except for showing up on the big day, for that matter) because you honestly want to do it all yourself.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you squeal with excitement if a wedding magazine comes in the mail, and then clear your schedule for the rest of the night just so you can read it cover to cover.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you want to change your career to become a Wedding Coordinator after seeing how much fun it was to plan your own wedding.

You know you’re obsessed with wedding planning… When you can list a dozen reasons to validate just how much you’re obsessed with wedding planning.

It is getting so close to the wedding and I am started to freak out, just a little! Ha, ha. I am trying to put all the finishing details on the wedding and make a list of all the things I still need to order. One thing that I added to the list is a MUST!- sparklers for the grand exit at the end of the night. Since a firework display is just not in the budget I thought that sparklers would be a wonderful and unique exit.  Also, in previous posts I have mentioned  my love for  great, fabulous photographs, and this would be one!

This is also a great favor to give your guests, if you wrap about 5 sparklers and attach a custom matches with your wedding details, all your guests can take them home with the left over sparklers.

I found some great DIY matchbooks at Off Beat Bride.

Make sure you have a small bucket of sand for your guests to put their sparklers in after they are done with them.

Mrs Castaneda 2B!!

To save a little money OR to buy myself a better wedding dress, i’m just going to have one dress & not buy a second reception dress… Maybe that would be easier.

I haven’t been to an actual store to try on dresses yet, I just hope for that “wow” factor” when I do. Hopefully I’ll find something beautiful within my budget of $2,000. We’ll see!! Also wondering to myself- are fiancees’ allowed to go to the fittings??… Andy is paying for it, so I want him to go help me pick something, but I want him to be surprised as well… I just hope his jaw drops when i finally walk down the asile.

It’s almost time to tell his family about our engagement- thanksgiving night at dinner!!! I know & love his family & they seem to love me too, so hopefully everyone will be happy.

After we tell the family, we can go look at churches… we have one in mind that we’d like to see, in his hometown, so I’m so excited! I can’t wait!!! I’m excited but at the same time I’m drained… keeping our engagement a secret for a while and not being able to plan since it’s a secret, you have to watch what you say, I have to take my ring off when I’m with his family, it’s exhausting. I’m ready to get it over with & let it out of the bag!!!

While planning your wedding, you’ll most likely find that the most wonderful day of your life is actually the place to find family and friend drama– center stage! Why? Because it’s your special day, of course ;)

From bridesmaids flaking out on their duties to family feuds, you could run into a lot of headaches. I was just reading a blog from a bride who seemed to have every person in her life butting heads. I just kept thinking, this is no way to spend what is supposed to be a fun and exciting process. And then I realized, I bet that some aspects of being on a budget could eliminate most of this drama.

See, with limitless options, your wedding could soon become more of a spectacle than the intensely intimate and special event that it is supposed to be. While some brides might be losing sleep over the type of rose that will be in her centerpiece, someone on a budget needs to be flexible. If you can say to yourself right from the beginning, “I’m going to go to a farmer’s market 2 days before my wedding and pick out whatever is in season that I like”, you don’t have to worry about these futile details. Flexibility is what will keep you sane in this whole process!

When your friends and family offer to help you, graciously accept their offer. If you think that you’re the only person you can trust to do it right, then you’re going to have some high blood pressure come the week of your wedding. Make the projects fun and social- don’t worry so much about everything being perfect. Let the memories of your wedding planning be the fun you had with friends and family along the way- not the stress of everything that didn’t go perfectly.

If you can learn to let go, you’ll have a lot more fun both on your wedding day and during the process of getting ready for it :)

Instead of buying white shoes or crystal encrusted shoes that you will probably never wear again, consider doing what these women did and pick something you can (and will!) wear again. Any color or style works and can add a touch of fun and flare to your ensemble.

Today is Square Root Day!

Square Root Day is a rare day that occurs when the day and the month are both the square root of the last two digits of the current year.

In another words: March 3, 2009 : 3/3/09, can be expressed mathematically as:   √9 = 3 or 3² = 3 × 3 = 9.

To ilustrate, unique table number cards representing the square root of the day.
