So this past weekend we had our first cake testing. It went well…we tried 3 different kinds-chocolate with chocolate mouse and buttercream icing, yellow with bavarian cream and butter cream icing, and red velvet with buttercream icing. Chocolate and yellow were really good! But the red velvet… just was not. That was very disappointing! Red Velvet is almost a staple down south and I definitely want one layer in our cake to be red velvet so that cake place was taken off the table immediately! We have 2 more that we are going to look at-and I am very excited for that!

It’s great getting to look through the books and really see what we like. I think we’ll definitely do white buttercream frosting, and we want something kind of simple, but of course beautiful. Below are some that I saw at a different cake place we’ll be going to next!

When it comes to the wedding, I care about a great many things.  I care about my dress, and the hog roast, and the invitations, and the honeymoon, and even the favours (although I’m having a massive headache over them).  But there are some things that I honestly don’t give a damn about: the cake, the centrepieces, the chocolate fountain, the decorations, the wedding video, and the band.

So when I asked Geek Groom what sort of cake he wanted, and he responded with “whatever you want”… it wasn’t pretty.

I’m terrible at making decisions about stuff I DO care about!  Seriously, I’ll spend ten minutes hovering in the shop trying to decide between a Lion bar or a packet of wine gums!  He always makes the decisions about things, and now I’m having to decide on everything about this wedding, even the stuff I don’t give a [very bad word] about!

After I told GG all of this (with sobs, sniffles and occassional hiccups), he completely disarmed me with logic.
“Well, why don’t you just make a list of all the stuff you don’t want to do, and I’ll do it?”
That never occured to me, because I am an irrational crazypants.  Fortunately I’m marrying a man who will give me a hug and pat me on the head, before giving me a solution to the problem I was getting so worked up about in the first place.  What a team!

So I’m making the list (cheerfully titled ‘Things Laura Doesn’t Give A [very bad word again, sorry] About So Scott Will Do Them’) because I may suck at decisions, but I totally rock at lists.  And the moral of this is, play to your strengths, work as a team, and be thankful that your partner loves you even when you go a little insane :D

(PS:-  Sorry about the overly melodramatic title, but it was all I could think of!)

Proving that it’s possible to merge rustic charm with elegance and tradition, Mary and Ben’s August wedding reception was held at the Diamond B, a 200-acre ranch in Kalispell, Montana.  The newlyweds took advantage of their setting in the “great wide open,” posing with their bridal party on a John Deere truck, and below a silo.

3 weeks away!! Ahh! After changing the date a total of 3 times, I never thought the wedding would be this close! My bridal shower last weekend was so much fun..here is a pic of me holding up my “washing well” that the bridesmaids presented me with!

I also wanted to post my cake topper..after tirelessly browsing website after website searching for cake toppers and not knowing if I wanted the classic figurine, a monogram, or even sugar flowers to top my cake, I’ve finally found the perfect one! And shhh…the groom doesn’t know anything about it!

Three weeks ago, the dream of our wedding was sinking out of site. With no work for either of us, unemployment benefits taken away from him, my parents not being able to help because they are in the same boat, and his parents not helping because they simply just won’t (and also didn’t help with his sisters wedding other than buying $30 worth of ginger Ale for the guests, which was the only drink offered other than water.), we really thought that our wedding was going to have to be cancelled. But then we got to thinking, we have lots of stuff for it already the only think we need is my dress to be paid off and his tux… other then that, we can make it happen.

With that being said, I have better news today! Jamie got a job!!! He starts either Friday or Monday, he will hear back from them in the morning with the date. He is really excited. It’s a fairly easy job & it’s $10 hourly. Our first goal is to get the Insurance on the truck paid to date, then get the truck payment paid to date & the cable & cell phone paid to date. Then after that everything should be easier.

I am very happy!

Today I was able to purchase the clippers and floral tape that I need to start my bouquets. My MOH is coming over Friday night & we are going to try to get the 4 bouquets and 10 bout’s done! After that we’ll focus on centerpieces. I did buy 1 fish bowl today @ wal-mart just to do a mock up. So after we do those, I will have pictures to post!! Yay!!

For now, that’s all I’ve got but its getting better.

OH YEA: I think tomorrow I am finally meeting with the lady doing my cake to plan. Yay!

It’s impossible to look at the photos from Mandi and Kyle’s Memphis wedding at the Pink Palace Museum without smiling.  I love a bride who’s not afraid of a little (or even better-a lot) of color, and everything about this wedding was bright, beautiful, and fun.  The flowers, by Deedra Stone Design, incorporated bursts of magenta, green and pale blue, complementing the ocean-hues of the bridesmaids’ dresses perfectly!

Vegas was amazing! I have such a truly special group of girlfriends – I can’t even begin to thank for them for the perfect Vegas getaway!  We did it up – we stayed at the brand new Aria where we also had dinner, then we took a party bus to see “Men of Sapphire” – which was a blast!  We spent Sunday poolside at Encore Beach soaking in the sun and enjoying fabulous music.  My girls planned hysterical games to see just how well I “know” Rob, but most importantly everyone bonded and got to know one another.  I am more excited about the wedding than ever!

As soon as I got back to LA it was time to choose the wedding cake!  It feels like I have spent the last two weeks going from bakery to bakery with marvelous online reviews, only to leave disappointed after tasting dry not impressive cakes.  And these are at bakeries where the cake starts at six dollars a slice!  I am not a big sweets person, but I want my wedding cake to taste good!  I started exploring other options – mini cupcake tower, chocolate fountain, dessert shooters – sounds delicious right?  Well that also increases the price at least another $20 per person.  With renewed energy and optimism I returned to my wedding cake search.

I decided to post my challenge on Facebook and a friend suggested Jamaica Cakes, which is located in West Los Angeles.  The bakery is owned an operated by Jamaica and her husband and they are an absolute breath of fresh air!  They scheduled a tasting with me the same day I called and were so easy to work with.  They didn’t hover over me, they gave me as much time as I wanted to taste every possible combination and even sent me with a take home box so Rob could taste everything too!   I knew almost immediately upon meeting them I had found my cake!  We are having three tiers: the bottoms is chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse and dark chocolate ganache, the middle is red velvet with cream cheese frosting (always a people pleaser), and the top is champagne cake with raspberry mousse and a layer of raspberry preserves.  I will keep it simple and elegant with a round cake, smooth look and beautiful cascading purple and lavender flowers – keep your eyes on this space for pictures to come!

That’s it for now – I just received a call and my wedding dress has arrived!

Here is a fun pic from my bachelorette night out complete with a tiara, bridal sash, champagne koozies and I have to mention the penis whistles – they stole the show! ( although they are not in the picture, but I’m sure you can use your imagination lol)

So I have been researching a bunch of cakes and trying to figure out exactly what I want. I am starting to realize that all the ones that I am impressed with and love, are all fondant. But every wedding I have been to that I have eaten a fondant cake I have been highly unimpressed.

So what are you doing for your wedding cake? Fondant like any of the below? Butter cream? Something else? Cupcakes?

Ashley and Nick had a picture-perfect setting for their March wedding in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.  Nick’s uncle performed the outdoor ceremony in both Spanish and English, while guests enjoyed some of the state’s best ocean views in the background.  After the ceremony, the bride and groom were whisked off to the 15th Hole in a golf cart for a few quiet moments together, and some beautiful photos.  Everyone enjoyed an elegant dinner at Los Verdes Golf Course, then danced the night away in celebration of the newlyweds!

I am happy to say that my invitations are stuffed, sealed & addressed! They are now in their own safe keeping box & put out of the way. They will be mailed I believe right around my birthday, August 11.

I still want to find a cute stamp. For that, HOBBY LOBBY!! They have a very large selection of stamps & I seen a shade of pink in the ink department that I loved too, so when we get a little extra spending money I am going to go ahead & pick those up. It’s only $10.

CIMG0110 225x300 My Checklist <3 My Maid of Honor was over yesterday. (Yes, the one I was having doubts about!) She helped me stuff the envelopes & put the monogram stickers on & my parents address stickers on. She seemed better in spirits yesterday & when she came over she wanted to see all of my new stuff I had gotten (which wasn’t much) & she went through my wedding binder to look at my ideas & such.

She also made a great suggestion that I never thought of, give a copy of the invitation to the lady making my cake so she can incorporate it. I know people have done that. I just really didn’t think about it. But when you look @ the cake I want & the invitation I ordered, they are very similar. =) That’s a plus. The invitation can serve as a color pallete because of the pinks!

These babies are ready to go, for now they are out of sight but not out of mind!

In a few short hours, I go to meet w/ the very lovely lady doing my cake. I want to discuss with her flavors! Me personally, the only type of wedding cake I’ve had is standard yellow. & that is my FH’s request is that the layer we cut into be yellow. So I am going to make sure she makes the bottom layer yellow & we can discuss flavors for the other 4 cakes. I was thinking: Marble, Funfetti, Chocolate, Strawberry. The 6 inch cake (which is ours for our 1 yr) will also need to be yellow. I know that my selections aren’t as “traditional” as some. And Red Velvet does sound beautiful, but I’ve never eatten it & I know its costly. I am chosing flavors that are 98 cents at wal-mart in the pilsbury brand. That will make me happy. I don’t know if she makes her cakes from scratch or now. But I’ll tell her for mine that she doesn’t have to. I figure it’ll take 8 boxes, max, to make my cake. Probably 3 yellow & then 1 of each other… I don’t know she’ll figure that part out. I am definitely no baker. For crying out loud, I messed up homemade pancakes this morning. I used all-purpose flour instead of self-rising. I don’t belong in a kitchen. LOL.

So Invitations & Meeting w/ the baker are not officially checked OFF of my list!!!! Yay!!!!

Of my handy “Ultimate Wedding Planning Checklist”, I’m completed 50 of 69 taskes!!! (21 of which weren’t necessary for me so they got marked off first!!)

Now to a little more less task focused. Let me ask you ladies, did you all (or are you) having weird dreams about your wedding day?

For the last two nights have had this terrible nightmare that it’s my weding day & I am sitting there in a room full of brides & my groom is getting ready to ride on a golf-cart up to the minister so we can begin our ceremony but I am sitting here still waiting for someone to help me zip my gown, & I don’t have hair done or makeup fixed. I am screaming at this lady that is supposed to be doing both & she doesn’t hear me. There are about 5 other brides in the room that she is focused on. I don’t know any of them. All I know is they are about to tell me I have to go marry my man now & my hair is a freaking mess, I have no makeup on & my dress isn’t even fastened.

It’s a horrible feeling I wake up looking around and get scared that it’s really going to happen on my wedding day. So I told my BFF/MOH that on my wedding day she better not ignore me or my dream will be coming true. She laughed at the dream and said that no one is going to ignore me. I said, “You have to be able to do my hair & makeup even if the girl for my hair shows up.” She just laughed. Yea, to some I guess it is funny but I think that this is a bride’s nightmare.
