Ok, don’t laugh at my VERY rough sketch, but I wanted to give you guys an idea of what I am hoping to do with the pavilion for the dancing portion of my reception.

One thing I have noticed about the “draping” idea that I really like is that it offers me a color transition of sorts that moves through the day. The ceremony (if we have it where I hope we will) is going to be a little more focused on the blue of my scheme, the dinner portion of the reception will be more about the green. If I go with the fabrics and baby’s breath, the dancing area will be all about the shades of ivory.

I know I am shooting a bit high, but I think it can be done.  It is just going to take time and $$.  I plan on putting the biggest chunk of my budget into flowers and decor anyway, so I should be fine. I am still a little concerned about covering up the fans though.  Style-wise I want them gone, but is it practical?  I am still not beyond utterly changing my mind and just doing something super simple with lighting and natural materials that would make the ceiling “disappear”. Any thoughts?

Now I am trying to decide if I should do anything for the floor or just leave it alone.  This particular spot will only be used for dancing and only after nightfall.  There will be uplighting from the posts and twinkle lights hidden in the babysbreath chandeliers (if I go that route) and probably some floor lighting from above and behind the DJ’s booth on the end that the perspective of this shot was taken from.  Should I add more to the floor? Is it even possible?

  1. Ginasays:

I love where your head is at! The idea to have the colors transition throughout the day is brilliant! It is exactly what I want and I thought it would all be to matchy-matchy. But the way you describe it is absolutely perfect!
I do want to offer a piece of advice…Less Is More! I have come to realize that the wedding guests are coming to see you-the Bride- get married. They know they are not paying for a five star resort!(key words:they are not paying-YOU are!). I think you should not worry about covering up the fans as much as, are the fans doing their job and keeping your guests cool? Last thing- the floor is for walking/standing/DANCING- why add more and take away from that?

I do hope this helps? I feel our decor ideas are similiar and THANKS for the "color transition" idea! Good Luck!!

  2. Thanks for the input, Gina. I totally see what you are saying about the floor and fans.
Also, it is good to know that someone else out there shares my taste for decor… even a little bit. ;) You are welcome.

  3. Love your idea!!!!!

but i do have to agree with Gina.. don’t go way to over detailed.. with people eating, drinking, dancing.. they aren’t going to notice all too much..

    but it’s your day!!!
