I am so incredibly honored and blessed to have been invited, along with a handful of other lucky wedding bloggers, to discover The Wonders of Weddings this week in Cabo San Lucas.

Pinch me because I have escaped the last snowfalls of Minnesota to the insanely stunning paradise of Cabo, hosted by The Westin Los Cabos and The Sheraton La Hacienda. Muy fantastico!

Follow me on Instagram or Twitter for a shot of the action...otherwise, I will be back next week with a recap!

20 Jan

All my bags are packed...I'm ready to go...Salt Lake City, here I come!

I can't believe it has already been ONE year since my first Alt Summit as I attended with truly rookie blogger status. While I very much still feel like a rookie, going back to Alt is far less overwhelming this time around as I can hardly wait to see so many friends IN PERSON that I have only been able to email, text and Skype with since last January.

I have been prepping with outfits, business cards and extra battery packs so I can drink up all of the ridiculous inspiration, creativty, laughs and pretty things! Yes, my cup will runneth over..

I can hardly wait to share all of the Alt-goodness with you and here are a few things at the top of my list:

  • The opulence and hospitality of The Grand America Hotel with it's awesome toy store, patisserie and ultra-comfy beds!
  • My dinner at the The Paris sponsored by the team from Red Stamp. My peeps from MN who are "fabulously social."
  • Keynote speakers: Garance Dore (so cool and one of the most influential women in fashion), Ben Silbermann (Mr. Pinterest!) and Christy Turlington Burns (yes, the stunning model AND founder of Every Mother Counts)
  • Party hoppin' to 11 mini parties. Yes, 11! All styled to nines - each with a different theme and swag to be had!
  • Roundtables and Design Camps where you can get real and get your hands dirty.
  • The Explore. Discover. Dream Party by Cricut where everyone will be sporting all shades of green.
  • Exploring the streets of Salt Lake and its thrift shops and Sundance Film Festival scene - all with the most gorgeous mountains as the backdrop.
  • ...and lots more that I don't even know yet!

So as you can see, I will be distracted and focused all at the same time for the rest of the week! I'll recap as soon as I can but until then, be sure and follow me on Instagram for some snippets along the way - or check out my rookie visit from 2013 here.

This is a gem!

Thanks to a couple of great friends, I discovered the cutest neighborhood floral shop in Minneapolis. Brown & Greene. The kind you dream about opening up someday. It's amazing. So warm and friendly and chock full of stunning florals, accessories, home decor and some pretty darn funny greeting cards.

A group of us had the perfect holiday gathering of friends at Brown & Greene to create our own Holiday Centerpieces with the help of shop owner Lyn along with Sarah. What a fun evening! A little bubbly, pretty treats, incredible smells surrounded by fresh greens and great friends. 'Tis the season!

Brown & Greene is a haven of all things beautiful and botanical. So needless to say, it took us a bit to get focused as we meandered throughout the shop, oooed and ahhhed and made piles at the register of things we HAD TO have before we were done.

Enough shopping and noshing...let the creating begin!

Makers gonna make. Who knew we were so talented?! (A huge thank you to Lyn and Sarah for your patience, floral genius, matching scarves and sense of humor! Love it.) And thank you Jordi and Dina for hosting this! Now we can proudly deck our tables this holiday season with these beauties...

ps. I can't wait to come back and do this again!! How fun for a bridal shower?!?

Going to a Be Crafty Workshop was on my list of Things To Do in 2013. Time was ticking so I was thrilled when I was able to get in on their holiday workshop.

Calling all crafters - and those who long to craft and make pretty things in a pretty space, the Be Crafty Worskhop was absolutely divine! I wish I could do this more often!

The dynamic crafting duo of Amanda and Jessica are as talented as they are cute with infectious personalities and passion for the ultimate craft. Their studio is a crafter and photographer's dream. Urban cool, industrial, natural light, exposed brick, spacious...heaven.

The studio was bubbling over with adorable crafting supplies and accents. All so well-organized and labeled, of course! Chock full of festive treats, drinks and crafters, it was a happy place - the ideal place to make new friends and be creative on this Sunday afternoon.

Glue guns, glitter and tiny deer...oh my!

A beautiful mess.

Finished products...cupcake liner rosettes, glitterized mini clothespins, jar turned gift container using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, stamped canvas bags, ruffle gift tags and embellished kraft box!

We were also blessed with some fun swag!

And with a studio full of crafters and bloggers, photos were a must...I can't wait to see my new friends again!

Thank you again for an awesome afternoon and helping us "be crafty!"

I left my heart San Francisco AGAIN.

I was so fortunate to go to Brit + Co.'s first Re:Make event...and I am so glad I did. It was full of awesome content, awesome people, awesome makers and an awesome vibe. Brit Morin put together one quality event as makers of all types came together to discuss and experience how digital innovations are revolutionizing the way we make.

Lots of good stuff but thought I'd share the faves I discovered, re-discovered and embraced...

A maker is someone who creates inspiration - not just physical products. -Randi Zuckerberg, Zuckerberg Media

The CatchBox is the coolest (and throwable) microphone on the block. Heads up.

Generosity begets business.Michael Mina, celebrity chef & author

The time, products and insight provided by all of the sponsors, speakers and vendors was off the charts. It was so comfortable and I loved how everyone was so approachable and helpful. Thank you!

Always. Rethink. Everything. - Jesse Genet, Lumi

Currently I'm a bit obsessed with Lumi! So worth checking out...you can do a-mazing things when printing fabric with light using the Lumi kits! (And founder, Jesse is pretty brilliant.)

Legos are fun and never get old. AND we were encouraged to play during the day! I do think I had as much fun with the POP containter from OXO as I did with the Legos.

Regular people with powerful tools can do extraordinary things. - Chris Anderson, 3D Robotics

3D printing isn't just for making Yoda heads - you can make jewelry, belt buckles and home decor! The 3D printer is predicted to be the home computer of the 21st century.

Always use the best quality spirits - and add ice last. - Josh Pogash, The Cocktail Guru

This Tap 357 Maple Rye Whisky was ridiculously tasty (and that's coming from a non-whisky fan.)

Emily Henderson. I adore her, her amazing style and her candid take on embracing technology - but most importantly, I love that she was headed to the Twin Cities for the first time for a project with Curbly.

IMG 6070

London is home to the strongest new brands in fashion. - Aubrie Pagano, Bow & Drape

And...the best bag can be found in unexpected places. Lisa of Zelma Rose carried a gold glittery bag (from J. Crew Crewcuts...yes, the kids catalog!) that was the envy of everyone. Love.

IMG 6047

We're all creative. There are only those who use their creativity and those who don't. - Brit Morin, Brit + Co.

Jolene from Red Stamp knocked out this Brit + Co. String Art | Air Plant Kit during our break! Yes, to creative.

You can meet someone for the first time and feel like you've known each other forever after just a couple days.

I ADORE Kara and Jolene from Red Stamp and had so much fun hanging with them for the weekend. So smart. So fun. Having withdrawl...and can't wait to see them again soon!

San Francisco is full of weird and wonderful (and beautiful) and I love it! Plus the weather is the most perfect in October.

Here is some beautiful for you. I would sit in the contemporary patisserie of Craftsman & Wolves everyday if I could. It's yummy and gorgeous.

I thought this event was a sure hit in it's first year and it will definitely be on my calendar for 2014!

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that last week I was back in NYC for a few days checking things off my bucket list right and left. For starters, I was one lucky duck who attended Alt Summit NYC!

I'm still walking on sunshine just thinking about the all of the fabulousness those 48 hours contained??!

Alt NYC was held at the offices of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. I have to admit I had butterflies heading down West 26th Street dreaming what would be waiting behind the doors of what a few of us kindly referred to as "Martha's House."

Confirmed. It is the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory of crafting and inspiration. Crisp white everything. Crafting gurus to your right and your left. Beautiful food and pastries lining the entry. Amazing energy and passion oozing from everyone bustling and chatting throughout this magical place.

Martha Stewart and Alt are a match made in heaven as both always pull out all of the stops. So I wanted to give you a glimpse into my day at an event that continues to prove life-changing with relentless support, creativity, inspiration and new friendships.

Welcome to Alt and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia!

Never lacking in smiles and welcome swag...

ALTNYC2.jpg 9123259342_07713a4b78_z.jpg

Finding my new favorite friends from the de-lish dinner sponsored by Flipboard at Fig and Olive the night before. Meet Jamie of 128 John St. and Nina of Life in Pictures 2013.

Let the crafting begin...

9121034079 b70eedf637 z

Hands down, one of the most impressive things about Alt is the quality of the speakers.

The advice and insight in regards to the dynamics and world of blogging is second to none. While often starstruck by the uber talented, creative, innovative and even ballsy speakers, I am most in awe of their candor, generosity and vulnerability as they are even more impactful when it comes to sharing their gems of genius on life.

9123295060_d02a282836_z.jpgGrace Bonney, Design Sponge

Blaze your own version of a path.

Surround yourself with positive people and people who welcome change.

Silence = a soft pat on the back.

We were honored to have THE Martha Stewart stop by and share a few good things. (She is as undeniably poised, stunning and brilliant with a presence as magical as you would imagine! And she even appeared from a little door like Alice in Wonderland...wow!)

In the words of Martha Stewart...

Bloggers. Curators. Educators. Tastemakers.

You get Martha Stewart Living.

A huge fan of Martha Stewart's American Made program...we had the chance to hear directly from some amazing makers.

9123308776_1100b33e7d_z.jpgPilar Guzman, Editor in Chief, Martha Stewart Living | Kathleen King, Tate's Bake Shop | Bob McClure, McClure's Pickles | Stephanie Housley, Coral & Tusk

Turn things that are less than awesome into learning opportunities.

Remember to love. Experience life. Be present.

If you are afraid, you will stay exactly where you are.

It's just cookies.

altnycspeakers.jpg Isabel Kallman, AlphaMom | Jen Koss, BRIKA | Valentine Freeman, Ace Hotel

Superwoman died of exhaustion.

Creating a life you love with style, grace and fiery spirit.

Believe in your secret sauce.

Pick your spot. Put your flag down. Speak loudly.

Always time for coffee, snacks, chatting, charging and of course, the infamous business card exchange.

9125518409_e77f9b9730_z.jpg 9123360024_fdf12d08d3_z.jpg
9123250754_5c29f3e342_z.jpg 9121144045_8aa4ee5e7c_z.jpg

And one of the speakers I was waiting for all day was Garance Dore. I have long been a fan of her fashion illustration and blog. She has an amazing sense of style, grace and humor. And she was every bit delightful and cool in person.

It's important to observe and not always react.

Branch out (but stay on the same tree).

Prove yourself everyday...for the rest of your life.

What you say NO to is as important as what you say YES to. It defines you.

Nothing like capping off this fantastic day with a rooftop cocktail party, good looking servers (you know Martha had cast), party decor only Martha and her team could coordinate...and a candy bar and sweets presented with perfection.

No Alt is complete without a couple visits to the Smilebooth!

Looking forward to more inspiration and Alt-goodness next month when I head west to San Francisco...

NYC bucket list. Get blow out at DreamDry, the ultimate blow-dry bar co-founded by Rachel Zoe and Robin Moraetes. Check!

As promised, DreamDry wasn't just a salon - it was a destination.

Luxury. Fun. Efficient. I loved every minute of it.

The energy was fabulous. The people stunning. The products smelled divine. And the glass of champagne was just what I needed...it was heaven and the perfect way to start my weekend in the Big Apple.

I loved the excitement my stylist, Steven had when he found out I was from Minnesota and that this was on my to-do list. Loved seeing co-owner, Robin in there in a gorgeous new braid they were testing. Beautiful and SO NICE!

Steven and I quickly bonded over our favorite TV show, Nashville. And while debating over braids or waves as I flipped thru the iPad of styles, we decided to go for Country Music Star hair and pay homage to Connie Britton and Hayden Pantierre. {giggle} For a girl with stick straight hair (and a girl who wished she could sing!?!), this was DREAM hair.

dreamdryfloor2 dreamdrysteven

I miss DreamDry already. I smell my Oribe products at home and it brings me back. I can't imagine going to NYC without a stop here again! So much fun, takes less than an hour and doesn't cost an arm and a leg! Already booking my appointment for my next trip in June...and I just may have to go for the braids!

Make every day glamorous.

This spring at the Junk Bonanza, Ki Nassauer wanted to showcase inspiration from her first Flea Market Style Weddings magazine with a Wedding Lab!

I LOVED the thought of this...and was even more thrilled when I was asked to help collaborate! Lucky me to work with Ki Nassauer and her uber creative team who has their finger on the pulse of all things cool and vintage. Now to infuse them into wedding themes...Yipee!

Gathering amazing, talented resources and spotlighting four main themes - Natural Elegance, Modern Glam, Bohemian Romantic and Funky Geographic - we were able to create fresh vignettes full of infinite inspiration for brides and vintage shoppers alike! Ideas that easily went beyond a wedding and translated perfectly to home decor and entertaining!

Natural Elegance

Inspired by her own wedding (which was featured in Flea Market Style Weddings magazine), Clare Hoelderle of The Red Bench Vintage Rental & Design and Avonlea Farm recreated the rustic barn wedding details from her big day. Perfectly charming and a crowd favorite!

...along with the fun and talented Elizabeth Demos, designer and author of The Vintage Style Wedding, who made the trek from Savannah, GA to shop the Bonanza herself and sign her books and meet the Wedding Lab goers. Loved her and her photographer Jade! (Now I'm excited to plan a visit down to her neck of the woods and check out vintage wedding inspiration Southern style!)

The Wedding Lab provided a number of firsts for GetMarried (including a TV interview!), plus we had our own little inspiration zone which was super fun to outfit...but I will say that the real rock stars of my space were the vintage pieces shared by Sarah from On Solid Ground Vintage Rentals. The mint mail sorting hutch was to die for...the sprinkling of cool "smalls" coupled with the Bella chair and pink table were more than adorable and the perfect way to represent GetMarried...a huge thank you to Sarah!

I looked forward to tracking all of the posted photos of the infamous gold horses placed on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter...all vying for the prize package featuring MY FAVORITE FINDS from the show. Alt Summit. Sigh. Where do I begin?! Smile.

I will preface this post with (1) it's not wedding specific (but keep reading, there's some good stuff!) and (2) it's the coolest thing I've ever done in my career.

A relative newbie on the blogging scene, my journey to the Alt Summit was nearly a year-long process that culminated in Salt Lake City - alongside some of the most talented, friendly, smart, insightful (and stylish!) hipster lady-bloggers in the world (okay, there were a handful of guys). No exaggeration. This was amazing.

Entering the blogesphere less than a year ago (eek!), I knew out of the gates that I needed some insight into this subculture of the infamous blogger. And the first place I looked was some of MY favorite blogs (Say Yes To Hoboken, Camille Styles, Apartment Therapy, Hank & Hunt). At that time, everyone happened to be doing recaps of this illusive "Alt Summit 2012" and what seemed like the mecca of all blogging and cool people.

Alt is defined as the definitive resource for the very serious business of beautiful, brillant blogging.

I'm in! I was immediately determined to figure out how to attend in 2013. The images, the stories, the videos...all so engaging and full of passion and like-minded people.

Needless to say the process to get a ticket to this wildy-popular event was more stressful than getting tickets to a Madonna concert?!? I was watching Twitter feeds race across the registration page while I deliberated over dinner and class options that were filling up right before my eyes. Yoga breathing required. While the event sold out in a crazy 30 minutes, gratefully I was in (and so was my photographer!) AND better yet, we had a room on-site at The Grand America Hotel (ummm...a ridiculously GRAND place more than worthy of its name.)

Months passed and I kept hyping up my pilgrimage to Salt Lake City and Alt to my friends, family and anyone who would listen...who are we kidding?! (many had no clue what I was talking about but either appreciated my passion - or called me crazy!) Well... I am more than happy to (finally) report that Alt exceeded all expectations...and yes, I may be a little crazy.

I am told I light up when I talk about what an incredible experience it was and can't help but share some of what I learned - even to the non-blogger folk. First of all, the HUGEST of thank yous to Jordi of Jordi Lee Photography who joined me on this journey with her own great energy, enthusiasm and even blog crushes. (Yes, how lucky am I to have had a photographer join me and capture the three days - AND be the best roomie and seat saver ever!?!)

While I have a whole notebook full of notes, here are some things that resonated with me as I digest all of this gourmet food for thought...and not all are about rock star blogging...great life lessons too.

And a few other gems that I took home (no round table needed...)

  • Business cards can be your best accessory.
  • Buy a pair of pretty scissors.
  • Get some cute glasses and learn to do a top knot.

Now here's some eye candy from the wondrous three days (so hard to narrow down from 600+ photos?!)...hope you get a good feel for the magic of Alt.

The Welcome Dinner sponsored by Minted, complete with the cutest party decor from their new line (I love this stuff!) and a great group of bloggers...

Feeling like a kid in a candy store...I flat out heartPink the Junk Bonanza! It is truly the best junk roundup in the nation.

Just imagine three days of vintage treasure hunting and digging through stunning antiques, salvage vintage, and re-purposed and artisanal pieces.

And who else was in the house among the 140+ vendors?...Etsy, a team from Chalk Paint purveyor Annie Sloan Unfolded, Tim Luke, star of HGTV's "Cash in the Attic," and of course, the phenomenal Junk Bonanza team led by Ki Nassauer!

Up with the sunrise and other Early Bird ticket holders, the anticipation is always crazy. Happy people, coffee and donuts, bags and baskets waiting to be filled with day's treasures.

I am loving these cool wedding marketplaces popping up everywhere.

Here's my latest find - Fizz & Frills.

Super cute name aside...what an amazing event if you are anywhere near the Pasadena area and have some wedding shopping to-dos!?!

A place to shop from highly curated designers and artisans coupled with gourmet food tastings and fashions shows. Perfect.

This event is hosted by Utterly Engaged, an online magazine and produced by Lovely Jubilee, an event design & personal styling company - and the vendor list rocks!

I was in Chicago over the weekend...one THE best cities...and fell in heartPink with this amazing retail shop on Michigan Avenue.

A British High Street retailer rooted in vintage + fashion-forward. Where glamour meets grunge in the most beautiful way.

The dresses and skirts were literally breathtaking...

Definitely some super cool options for less traditional bridesmaid or even bride's reception dresses...

I left with an amazing pair of boots and a handful of things on my wish list! (There is a dress that I just may need to order for an upcoming rehearsal dinner...)

A worthy stop online and an absolutely must-see in person. Stunning.

indie wed

OMG. If you ever have the opportunity to attend an Indie Wed show, jump on it!!

What is Indie Wed, you ask? Well, Indie Wed is the alternative to the traditional bridal expo - considered wedding planning redefined.

I love this event for so many reasons...the support of small local businesses, truly unique talent, ideas and products, the embracing of couples with an independent spirit - and a cool, intimate setting that feels like a cocktail party AND artisan market at the same time. Heaven.

To date the Indie Wed shows have been strictly in the Midwest...but rumor has it they are expanding nationally in 2013! Super exciting. Their next show is in Denver on July 31st (their Rocky Mountain debut- and in my mind, a perfect place for this event!)

After attending my first Indie Wed show in Milwaukee, I give it a definite thumbs up - and even recommend it for those who just love cool, unique inspiration for fashion, entertaining, food, paper goods, photography...not necessarily just wedding. They pick such great venues to host the show & market!

Here is a peek at the Milwaukee show...

Who knows? Maybe I will see you mingling with a cocktail, dancing to the live music or browsing the market at one of these upcoming events...
