Want a guest book AND something more? Here are my best ideas!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 08, 2009
JEAN ANDERSEN

Having a beautiful guest book wedding. It also gives you a precious keepsake and memory of everyone who celebrated with you.

But what if you want something a little more unique, a little more personal or just a little MORE than a guest book? Try out some of these ideas for getting guests involved in helping you make memories!

signature mat

signature photo mat

Frame your engagement photos in a classy, wide mat or on a large photo board guests can sign with a note for you. Frame the photos and mats and display them in your home for instant access to wedding memories.

well wishes album

Provide colorful cards for guests to write their wishes for your future. Arrange a card at each place setting or in a basket on each table. Also be sure to provide pens for signing. Collect the cards afterward and arrange them in a special book. Bring out the book and read it every anniversary for a great way to relive your celebration with friends and family!

well wishes set

It’ll be fun to guests to leave you a wedding wish and drop it in a beautiful glass vase at your reception. Have the cards and vase set up next to the bar or punch table or anywhere else guests may congregate. After the wedding, keep your cards in a special book, and use the vase for flower arrangements, candles or centerpieces for years to come.

Enjoy! ~Jean

Wedding Invitations: What is thermography?

TUESDAY, AUGUST 25, 2009
JEAN ANDERSEN

A technical-sounding name for a beautiful printing process!

The way your invitations are printed are as much a part of their style as the paper color, wording, ribbon color and layout you choose.

That’s where thermography comes in. Don’t be scared by the technical-sounding term — it’s really just another way to say that your invitation will be printed in beautiful raised lettering!

Thermography is the most popular method of printing invitations today because it looks so elegant and is incredibly affordable.

Here’s how thermography works:
• the invitation is printed with ink
• while the ink is still wet, resin is sprinkled on the printed invitation sheet
• the sheet is exposed to heat
• the resin and ink fuse together
• like magic, the lettering is raised above the invitation’s surface
The end result looks and feels similar to traditional engraving, but thermography costs much less.

The majority of Jean M’s ink colors are printed in thermography. Certain ink colors like white, cream and lavender are flat printed (not thermographed).

When you’re choosing ink colors for your invitations and other paper items like programs, menu cards, place cards, etc., refer to Jean M’s ink color list (http://www.myjeanm.com/PaperColors.cfm) to see if the ink color you’ve fallen in love with will be printed in raised lettering or flat printed. You’ll also find our advice on which ink colors look best on which paper colors.

Enjoy! ~Jean

Late summer weddings! – Great ideas for keeping your cool.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 11, 2009
JEAN ANDERSEN

Late summer is a beautiful time to get married. The sunshine, the outdoors, the surf, the sand — all add to the appeal of your warm-weather celebration.

But while the colors, the atmosphere and the seasonal beauty can make your wedding look hot, you certainly don’t want you or your guests to get overheated. Here are a few ideas for keeping your cool.

waterbottles

Provide chilled bottles of water, juice and soda for guests during the ceremony and reception. Dress up the bottles with personalized stickers, favor tags and ribbon.

lemonade

You can also set up a refreshment stand where guests can help themselves to fresh lemonade. Add your personal touches to the spread with ribbon in your wedding colors, personalized stickers, printed cards listing the refreshments served and personalized napkins.

flip flops

If your wedding is at the beach or on an uneven lawn, do your guests a favor by providing flip-flops for them to wear. They’ll appreciate not having their heels dig into the grass or getting sand in their good shoes.

favor fans

Guests can make their own cool breezes with pretty fans printed with your program wording. Tie a ribbon to the fan handles for a custom look.

Enjoy! ~ Jean

Getting with the program — wedding programs, that is!

TUESDAY, JULY 28, 2009
JEAN ANDERSEN

Frequently asked questions I’ve overheard at wedding ceremonies:
“What song are they singing? Should I sing along?”
“What was the name of the recessional music? I want it at my wedding!”
“Should I read this prayer out loud with the officiant?”
“Who IS that cute groomsman?”

Obviously, the brides at these weddings didn’t provide their guests with wedding programs!

1-Piece Programs

2-Piec

Wedding programs have an important job to do. They welcome guests to your wedding, allow them to follow along with and participate in your ceremony, introduce the parents and bridal party, list the important elements of the service (music, prayers, etc.) and even provide you with an opportunity to send a message of thanks to your guests.

Creating personalized programs is fun and easy!

• First, find the style that will work best for your wedding. You can opt for one-piece programs if your ceremony is short and your bridal party is small, or you can choose two-piece programs for large wedding parties, complex ceremonies and lots of information. You can even have your programs printed on fun and handy fans perfect for warm-weather or outdoor ceremonies.

program fan

spice program fans

• Next, choose your paper color or colors, and decide on the monogram or design element you’d like to incorporate.

• Then, determine your wording. You can go very simple and just give a basic list of the order of service and names of the bridal party. Or you can tell a story by mentioning how you know your wedding party members, listing the texts of the prayers and words to the hymns, and explaining unique rituals or symbols you are incorporating into your ceremony.

jumbo programs

• Also think about any extra wording you’d like included on your programs, like a thank you to your family and your guests for celebrating with you or a note about the person for whom you’ve lit a memorial candle.

• Finally, embellish! Use rhinestone or pearl add-ons, stamps or ribbons to add the perfect finishing touch to your programs.

Important Note! If you are ordering printed programs, be sure to place your order at least 4 weeks before your ceremony to allow for printing, delivering and assembly / embellishing, if necessary.

Enjoy! ~Jean

Add style to your reception: personalized, colorful napkins!

TUESDAY, JUNE 30, 2009
JEAN ANDERSEN

Napkins are a necessity for your wedding reception. You’ll need them at the bar, the cake and punch table, and at the dinner. So why not raise these humble little necessities to symbols of your style? Choose a great color that matches your wedding and personalize them with a design, a monogram, your names, your wedding date — anything that makes them unique.

new napkin colors

Just look at all the exciting new napkin colors you can choose from! Jewel tones, brights, neutrals — so many to choose from. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors (try black with lawn green or pacific blue) for a great impact. You can also mix up the personalization for each style of napkin: cute design and message on your cocktail napkins, a different design or monogram for your cake napkins, and yet another fun design or your names and wedding date for your dinner napkins.

new monograms

There are lots of creative ways you can personalize your napkins. Go with fresh, new designs or a unique monogram to show your style.

guest towels

And don’t forget to add personalized guest towels to your powder rooms for a little touch of luxury guests will appreciate and remember.

Enjoy! ~Jean

Go Green — Beautifully — On Your Wedding Day!

TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 2009
JEAN ANDERSEN

So many couples today are intent on celebrating their love with a beautiful wedding that’s also easy on the planet. How do you have a “green” wedding that’s unique and stylish? Here are some of my favorite ideas.

• Choose recycled paper invitations, favors, menu cards, place cards and more.

Recycled paper is easier on the environment and if it comes from certified production facilities, you’ll know it’s being made with sustainable practices. (You’ll be happy to know that Jean M papers are made from 30% post-consumer fibers!)

• Celebrate your wedding in a natural environment like your backyard, in a vineyard or at a park. You’ll have built-in ambience and décor, reducing the need for lots of decorations and wasteful materials.

• Give “green” favors like seed packets printed with a cute verse and accented with ribbon, or bulbs or tiny trees wrapped in favor bags.

seed packets

• Use potted plants, trees and shrubs as ceremony and reception decorations. Plant them in your own yard after the wedding, or give them away as gifts at the end of your celebration.

• Use fresh fruits as centerpieces and they can double as favors. For example, use large vases of apples for a fall wedding. Then invite guests to take an apple as a favor with cards or table tents printed with “Enjoy!”

fuite padf

• Make a donation to your favorite charity in lieu of favors but remember to have a few recycled paper donation cards printed for each table to not that you’ve donated in guests’ honor. Also ask that guests make donations to your favorite charity in lieu of gifts.

donation cards

• Collect wedding programs, place cards and menu cards at the end of your celebration for recycling.

• Environmentally friendly transportation is thoughtful and will always be remembered. You and your husband could arrive and leave in a horse-drawn carriage, an electric car or even on a tandem bicycle.

• Borrow accessories (jewelry, your veil, etc.) rather than buying them. Have your dress made from organic cotton or silk, or buy a vintage gown and have it altered. And choose dresses your bridesmaids will actually wear again.

• Donate leftovers to your local homeless shelter.

By making wise choices and spending your budget on eco-friendly products and services, you’ll have a beautiful wedding AND make a difference to our planet!

Enjoy! ~ Jean

My Top Money Saving Tips

TUESDAY, JUNE 02, 2009
JEAN ANDERSEN

Don’t let the worries about the economy lead to wedding budget stress. There are so many ways for you to save money and still have the wedding of your dreams! Read on for more great ideas.

Provide romantic couple favors

cello bags-fall theme

You can still have elaborate favors without going over budget by giving one favor to each couple. Fill a cellophane bag with a candle and some matches to encourage romantic moments. Add a place card to secure the tops of the bags for a complete package.

Display your menu cards at the buffet or hors d’ouevres table

menu card on stand

Cut down on the number of menu cards you need to order by arranging just a few at your buffet or hors d’ouevres tables. Display them in table number stands high enough so guests can read the fare and add some ribbons that coordinate with your wedding colors.

Or…
Display just one menu card per table. Arrange them creatively, like in a little, square container of sweets guests can share instead of providing individual favor treats.
