Bride’s in Spin & Puke mode! And no she is not pregnant-

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 08, 2009
DIRECTSOUND

Just when you thought you had it all figured out, brides have a new worry “Décor Lighting” Wedding Reception Halls, a great source to find a great wedding DJ and Lighting service, but don’t just ask the manager ask a few of the workers. The waitresses and bartenders that work the rooms are more in tuned with the DJ and are a good source that can give you an accurate opinion of the night’s performance and if the DJ can keep the crowd moving or if the atmosphere is elegant or looks like a seine from dark hole.

Most brides want a lighting package that makes the room look amazing without giving you a headache or blinding you every time you turn around. A lighting package that goes around the room with the warm colors of the wedding, giving your wedding that finished look without turning your dinner into a disco. Remember you are there all night, make it soothing for your ears and your eyes.

Now a days you need a lighting package that can “transform “ from a spectacular Grand Entrance to a warm Dinner hour all the way to that Night Club look for late night dancing. Most DJ and lighting services will only bring lights that are automatic with no control over the color or movement. So if you have wedding set in deep reds or a beautiful blue and the DJ has no control you will only get lighting with a full spectrum of colors and most of the time set to the “Spin & Puke” mode.

Look for a DJ that uses intelligent lighting and knows how to use it and the lighting. Most DJ’s companies offer intelligent lighting, but most likely its set to the auto mode. In some cases they may even charging you for DMX programming, when in fact they have no control over the light at except to turn it on and off. During your consultation ask to see unedited video and pictures of a night’s performance. The unedited video lets you see what really happened and not a prefabricated look set to make them look better. This way you can see if the lighting matches the moment and the sound is right for the time.

Don’t get me wrong everyone has different tastes for music and choices for wedding colors but if keep that in mind, you will see how that DJ / Lighting technician will work or not work for you. For great Décor Lighting just search for  Wedding DJ and Décor Lighting Service to find your favorite.

DIY Up-Lighting... Or Not

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 04, 2009
DIRECTSOUND

Hi, LED Up-Lighting comes in many different flavors. To DIY you can get them set to one color but it gets kind of boring all night. The best look is the ability to set it through dinner to a color or two having them fade slowly from color to color every few minutes then when it come to the dancing portion of the night make them come alive with great interaction and movement having them snap from color to color and chase around the room this is very nice and keeps your reception hopping still keeping that elegant look.

A few things to know if you want to do it yourself you will need several lights that can range from $200-$600 for each light for a light that can be set and have enough color to go up the wall in a room the ahs the lights slightly dimed, also you will need a power plug for each light if not you will need an extension cord with multi outlets to daisy chain them around the room.

In addition you need special DMX cables to connect the lights to be able to be connected together. The cables need to be the right length to go from light to light. These cables cost about $15 for about 10 feet of cable and a bit more for a longer run, you need one cable per light and one to go to the controller if you are using one.

If you dot use a controller some lights give you the ability to hook them all together set the switches in the right pattern and then all you need to do is change the first lights color and it will change all of the fooling lights this is called master slave mode. Then you need someone to control them all night to change colors or you can set and forget on a certain color.

OK Now the Easy way Hire a professional Wedding Décor Lighting person or DJ that does Décor Lighting. You can expect to pay between $45-$95 per LED par can depending if it is a set and forget or full DMX or if special programming is needed like every other light changes color or some kind of a fancy display. It is probably best to get a DJ company that offers this as part of their lighting package or at least as an add-on you might be able to save a bit there. Go to Google look at some great "Wedding Décor lighting DJ" or you may add your state there to see them in action, maybe they can make your wedding amazing. I can tell you prices for full room up-lighting can go somewhere between $400-$4500 depending on your lighting needs. Also a great combo with up-lighting is gobo projection.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 03, 2009
DIRECTSOUND

Some wedding traditions you may not want to mess with but I am always looking for a unique twist to put on the garter / bouquet removal and toss. Some of the Ideas we come up with may be something you wish to include in your event or special day. Many couples feel that the standard garter /bouquet removal toss is a tired tradition and that they need a fresh twist on an old classic. More and more couples are beginning to look for unique ways to the garter toss and even the bridal dances. Please let me know what you do or have seen to break the traditional type event…
