Visions of a Mountain Meadow Wedding

MONDAY, JUNE 01, 2009
PUNKYJNM

I got engaged on Christmas morning. It was so sweet, he even got down on one knee.

Now, 6 months later, I have tons of bookmarks from my online searches and I have some ideas as to what I want. The big day will either be June 19 or 26, 2010. We live in So Cal currently, and the FH is in the Navy. He leaves this July for 6-7 months, so I'm left to do most of the planning alone. My MoH lives here, so she will be helping me out a little, but she's pretty busy with her own always-on-deployment husband and two kids, so I can't trouble her with too much.

I have looked into making my own wedding invites, but after everything, it won't cost much less than just getting them already made and printed by someone else. Plus it will mean more time to spend on other aspects of the wedding.

I have an idea of the flowers I want- gerbera daisies, either red or orange, mixed with smaller white daisies. I would prefer to have bicolored zinnias, and I bought some seeds to grow them myself- we'll have to see how that turns out!

The colors for the wedding are red, orange and yellow (brides maids dresses will be yellow). The wedding will be outdoors, in the town of Julian, CA (assuming I can get the $$ together for the deposit to hold the date at the location we've chosen).

Luckily my mother has offered to pay for the photography (up to $1000- we'll have to cover anything over that). My father and stepmom are paying for the reception/ceremony (up to $5000- once again we'll have to cover anything over that). Everything else I'll have to pay for.

My sister is lead pastry chef at a small bakery/cafe in Tucson, AZ and she wants to make my wedding cake, but she is driving out here and I don't think a cake would hold up for the 7 hour drive. I am trying to convince her and my other sister to just move out here in Jan and live with me when my roommate vacates. It would sure make MY life easier!

Our venue does not allow amplified music, so we will just run basic speakers from a radio attached to our Ipod and create our own music list. There is one extra that I just have to have: a butterfly release! They load them into decorated boxes and open the lids at a specific time during (or after) the event. Since everything is outdoors, in the beginning of summer, in a mountain/open fields setting, I think it would be perfect! This place http://www.butterflyreleases.com/service.htm can package them into individual origami packages so each guest can release a butterfly. I would like the guests to pick up their package from the sign-in table and release them as we walk back down the aisle after the ceremony.  :)

I'm waiting until my sisters visit me this summer to start trying on wedding dresses. I've found several from David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo that I like, and www.sofiabridal.com can custom make a dress for me from a picture, with exact measurements, for WAY cheaper than buying it from the actual vendor.

As far as the honeymoon goes, my FH wants to take a cruise (odd- seeing as how he spends most of his time on a ship!). I've heard rumor that my co-workers might chip in and get me a cruise for a gift! That would be totally awesome! Way better than paying for it ourselves- or just not having one because we can't afford it.

That's about it so far. I think I've covered most of the bases. Now it's just about turning my visions into realities- one month at a time.

Bio:

I work and live in San Diego, CA. My fiancee is in the Navy, and out on deployment from July 2009 - Jan/Feb 2010. Our wedding is planned for June 2010, so I'll have to make most of the plans alone, and once he gets home we will finalize everything.

I'm looking for all kinds of ideas and way s to save money on everything about the wedding. We plan on 100 guests, so on a $7000 budget, it'll be tight. But I am having fun at it!
