Designing Your Destination Beach Wedding

We went straight to the source, the experts at the Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, for the latest trends in destination beach weddings.

Joan Bever, Director of Catering and Banquet Operations at The Breakers Palm Beach, has more than 20 years of experience in the field of providing "Impeccable Personalized Service."  Here's what she's seeing as the top trends in destination beach weddings at the eponymous Palm Beach resort.

On COLOR: All shades of purple are popular, but lavender is one of the hottest colors of the season.  Deep shades of blue are also very popular.

On TRENDS:

"Club Areas" with sleek, modern seating create a fun and unique way for guests to sit, chat and relax in style.  These areas are particularly popular for cocktail hours and after parties.

A return to all white weddings-From flowers and linens to bridesmaid dresses and candles, the timeless look of white creates a flawless and classic style while also providing incredible versatility.  A color palette of white, cream and ivory works everywhere from a lavish indoor winter wedding to a casual beachside wedding.

On Destination Beach STYLEFor this question, we consulted Randy Fenoli, Kleinfeld's Fashion Director and star of TLC's Say Yes To The Dress, who confirmed that today’s weddings have really changed.  There are no longer rules to follow and that even for a destination wedding; Brides do not want to give up the dream of a lavish wedding dress, even if they're getting married on the beach.  So Randy says, “Go for your dream dress,” but keep a few things in mind:

Pick a dress that is less likely to wrinkle and can be packed for shipping. Lace is a great option.

For a warm weather climate, choose a lightweight fabric like organza, chiffon or taffeta.

 On FLOWERS:

For an informal beach theme, tropical flowers make a splash.  Check out red or pink Ginger, Birds of Paradise, Fire Opals (Mini Birds) in hot orange or yellow, and hanging Heliconia, also known as lobster claws, usually two-toned pinks and orange.

For a formal beach theme, it's all about orchids.  Varieties like Cymbidium, Vanda & Dendrobium are popular, as are garlands of Orchids, in white or assorted colors, and roses in assorted colors.

On SIGNATURE COCKTAILS:

Hold the olives!  Key Lime martinis, Peartinis, Flirtinis and Lychee martinis are most popular amongst beach-bound brides.
