The scoop on great cosmetic products

Looking and feeling sexy for yourself and your new hubby on your honeymoon is not only important, it’s fun! Here are some great tips on how to pack an effective and low maintenance beauty and skin care kit for your trip of a lifetime.

Pack light, pack right!
Your time is precious and so is the space in your travel bag. It is important to pack beauty products that are going to do a little double duty for you to lighten your travel load and leave more time to spend with your hubby and, well, do honeymoon things.

The Essential 6
These six “must-have” beauty products are guaranteed to maintain your just married glow.

1. Sun Protection for the Face and Body

You’ve heard it many times before, but sun protection is a must, especially if your honeymoon destination is the beach. If you tan easily, pack and use sunscreen. If you burn easily become best friends with a good sun block. Burned skin is not sexy and there’s no room for it on your honeymoon.

Pack easy-to-use products that both you and your hubby can share. Products like Coppertone’s No-Rub Sunscreen is great because it’s a continuous spray that provides quick and even coverage and, best of all, it’s waterproof. I recommend a minimum SPF 15 sunscreen for the body and a SPF 30 sunscreen for the face. It’s important to pack a really good SPF designed specifically for the face such as La Rouche-Posay Biomedic’s Facial Shield SPF 30 that contains both UVA/UVB sun protection. In terms of Sun Block, Banana Boat Active Sport makes a Quick Dry Sun Block Gel with an SPF of 30 that is waterproof, sweat proof, and oil free–fabulous for sensitive skin!

2. Refreshing Aloe Vera Gel

This cure-all gel has multiple healing properties that moisturize, cool, and soothe sun-touched skin. Bonus: It’s a multi-use fixer-upper to boot.

Aside from using aloe vera gel to alleviate redness and moisturize after a day out in the sun, you can use it to cool off while under the sun as well. Mix aloe vera gel with water from your hotel room in a spray bottle and use this mixture to cool off while on the beach. Aloe vera also acts as a good hair styling agent. Use it as a pomade to tame fly-aways and eliminate frizz. Also, apply aloe vera gel to wet hair and let your hair air dry to get coveted beach waves.

3. Powdered Bronzer and/or Tinted Moisturizer

Both of these products are designed to give you an effortlessly, natural glow. It’s just a matter of preference as to which you want to use. A neat trick is to use both. First apply a tinted moisturizer and then follow with a powdered bronzer on places where the sun naturally hits your face (forehead, tip of your nose, apple of your cheeks and tip of your chin) while leaving the other areas of your skin dewy courtesy of the tinted moisturizer.

A good tinted moisturizer will work to moisturize, tone down redness and imperfections, and provide SPF coverage all at the same time. Stila’s Sheer Color tinted moisturizer is easy to use and comes in a variety of shades with an SPF of 15. It’s light, hydrating formula is ideal for all skin types. I used this tinted moisturizer during my recent honeymoon and it made my face radiate under candlelight–an added bonus for all you romantics out there.

4. A new lip gloss and blush combo

This is the perfect excuse to freshen up your look, ladies! Spice up your color wardrobe and spark some excitement with a new lip and cheek duo that speaks to the mood of your honeymoon. When it’s nearing your honeymoon departure date, take a trip by your favorite cosmetic counters and check out their latest color stories. See what new products they have for the season. Pick up a lip and blush set that speaks to your mood, color preference, and, possibly, honeymoon destination. Many cosmetic companies look to fashion and exotic locales to create color palettes represented by hot spots like the South Pacific, Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Added bonus: Tell your sales rep that you’re going on your honeymoon and she might give you some travel-size free samples.

5. Volumizing mascara and professional lash curler

Every make-up pro will tell you that this combo is a must and there’s good reason for it. It works!! Curling your lashes and then following up with a good mascara provides an instant lift and makes you look more awake and alive. Sometimes these two products are all you need to look refreshed.

Mascaras that have thick wand applicators will provide the most volume. An industry favorite is Christian Dior’s Diorshow. It’s a bit of a splurge but totally worth it. Tip: If you have a favorite mascara or you’ve wanted to sample a hot-seller, ask a cosmetic counter sales associate to give you a sample version to take on your honeymoon.

6. A special, sexy fragrance

A very important part of your honeymoon beauty routine should be spraying on the right fragrance. Remember your choice fragrance will serve to remind you of your magical vacation for years to come. Since scent is undoubtedly linked to memory, select a fragrance that is reminiscent of your destination. Lots of cosmetic companies are developing fragrances that are destination driven and evoke the smell of the islands, for example.

I get many compliments when I wear Beach by Bobbi Brown. Every time I wear it now, it reminds me of my honeymoon and so it’s a special scent that my husband and I share.
